چکیده
The Heuningnes Catchment in the Republic of South Africa was used as a case study this research to describe application saltwater fraction/quantification and hydrogeochemistry methods evaluate extent saline intrusion coastal aquifers. argument is that presence seawater incursion may be conclusively determined by combining examination major ions, fraction, stable isotopes water, bromide, geochemical modeling. Using oxygen (18O) deuterium (2H), ions chemistry, composition, modeling, genesis salinity mixing different water masses were examined. Twenty-nine (29) samples groundwater All showed facies Na-Cl type, indicating seawater-related origin. significance aquifers under natural conditions shown hydrogeochemical characteristics key derived from ionic ratios, which demonstrated substantial adherence lines among endmembers for freshwater well (seawater). quantification contribution percentages varied 0.01 43%, with three having concentrations above 50%. It clear analysis determination proportion impacted fresh groundwater. In addition, chloride concentration ranged 81.5 26,557.5 mg/L, corresponding δ18O values ranging −5.5‰ −0.9‰, suggested mixing. Br−/Cl− ratios evaporation had played part elevating well. Since saturation indices below zero, mineral dissolution could also contribute salinization Further proof investigated catchment supplied modeling bromide. Even though such tools not verified multiple widespread generalization, offered scientifically significant understanding on has useful recommendations aquifer setting similar environments.

Modes of seawater intrusion during transgressions
Analytical methods and numerical experiments are used to study salinization of groundwater in response to sea level rise. The system that is studied involves a saturated porous medium with an inclined upper surface. The upper surface is progressively inundated during sea level rise to simulate transgression, the landward migration of the shoreline. Four "modes" of seawater intrusion are disting...
متن کاملFormal derivation of seawater intrusion models
In this paper, we consider the flow of fresh and saltwater in a saturated porous medium in order to describe the seawater intrusion. Starting from a formulation with constant densities respectively of fresh and of saltwater, whose velocity is proportional to the gradient of pressure (Darcy’s law), we consider the formal asymptotic shallow water limit as the ratio between the thickness and the h...
متن کاملImpacts of seawater rise on seawater intrusion in the Nile Delta Aquifer, Egypt.
Several investigations have recently considered the possible impacts of climate change and seawater level rise on seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers. All have revealed the severity of the problem and the significance of the landward movement of the dispersion zone under the condition of seawater level rise. Most of the studies did not consider the possible effects of the seawater rise on th...
متن کاملSeawater Intrusion in the Plain of Oristano (sardinia, Italy)
The site under study covers an area of 273 km in the Oristano plain on the west coast of Sardinia (Italy). Since 1950 the plain, formed during the Quaternary by alluvial deposits, has been under intensive cultivation and is an important dairy farming centre. In the coastal region, the large number of wells (25,000 tapped and not) some very close to each other, has resulted in over-exploitation ...
متن کاملNumerical Modelling of Seawater Intrusion in Manukan Island's Aquifer
A numerical model SEAWAT-2000 was developed to investigate the current seawater intrusion status in the low lying area of Manukan Island. SEAWAT-2000 output indicated that there is about 1.4% of freshwater and seawater mixing ratio at sea level in low lying area of Manukan Island illustrates the seawater intrusion problem. Upconing process simulated by SEAWAT-2000 showed the current status of s...
